Shield of Mary Devotional Wall Hanging by Miriam Morrissette
A Marian Cross is a Marian symbol that is often seen on the design of Miraculous medals which are often used as sacramentals for healing in both Catholicism and in many forms of folk magic. This piece follows in both these traditions as it features a hand embroidered and beaded Marian Cross,as a symbol of healing, on vintage silk brocade with a sensuous maroon velveteen backing in the shape of a shield, a symbol of fortitude in many folk magic traditions, featuring mauve freshwater pearl beads, which symbolize overcoming obstacles and inner wisdom, and a antique golden metallic trim. The wall hanging has been imbued by the artist in ritual with blessings and prayers for healing in whatever form the receiver needs. Also, The shield is stuffed with raw silk for strength, dried lavender for protection, and ground amber resin for healing. It is both a talisman and a hand-crafted piece of devotional art.
