St. Petronilla Devotional Wall Hangingby Miriam Morrissette
This green velveteen wall hanging was made in devotion to Saint Petronilla who is a saint that is often invoked for healing against fevers and other maladies. This piece features an image of her from an antique prayer card collaged onto matboard and framed by vintage metallic black and gold trims with her name handwritten onto white fabric and sewn onto the back. The wall hanging itself is made out of vintage green, cotton velveteen and thick, black wool felt adorned with an antique gold colored, copper thread tassel made in Germany at the end of the 19th century. This devotional wall piece is completely hand-sewn from start to finishing using a hand-quilting method called English Paper Piecing which originated as a quilting technique in England at the beginning of the 19th century.
