This winter has been particularly hard on many minds and hearts, so I decided to offer a special spread designed to help shake off the lingering weight of the season and welcome the return of life. In the early hours of spring, we begin to stir from winter’s long inwardness—the atmosphere of the Five of Coins, wandering through the cold, searching for warmth that seems just out of reach. The winter months ask for endurance and patience, yet beneath the frozen surface unseen forces are already at work. Roots awaken, sap begins its quiet ascent, and the landscape prepares to unfold again into color and movement.
From the fragile blossoming of cherry trees to the resurrection imagery of Easter, this moment—around the first breath of March—has long marked the true beginning of the year: the sudden eruption of life from the stillness of winter.
The Rite of Spring spread is designed as a ceremonial reading for this threshold. Through ten cards, it explores the delicate passage between what must be released and what is ready to be born. Like the figures of the Judgment card rising from their coffins at the sound of the trumpet, we are summoned from our private hibernations into a new creative season.
